1961年，Phil Spector在Atlantic唱片當任職業製作人後一年，他接到了為一個冉冉升起的合唱組合the Top Notes（有時叫做為Topnotes）製作一首單曲的工作，這首歌就是《Shake It Up, Babe》。此時Spector的“音牆”技術仍未成熟，單曲的錄製效果不佳，缺少了組合在現場表演是所擁有的能量。歌曲的創作及演唱者Bert Russell覺得Spector毀了這首歌，並想努力告訴Spector，這首歌應該怎么做。
