創作背景

《I Believe I Can Fly》是R·凱利於1996年為由麥可·喬丹主演的電影《空中大灌籃》而創作的插曲.。一次R·凱利在籃球場上遇到了麥可·喬丹。喬丹詢問他，能否為一部由他本人出演的電影創作一首歌曲。在未了解電影內容的情況下，凱利答應了喬丹的請求。之後二人一道觀看了電影，這使凱利想到了“我相信我能飛”這個標題。而歌曲的旋律是凱利在酒店熟睡之時“夢見的”。在大堂的鋼琴前坐了兩小時後，他即興唱出了“我相信我能飛，我相信我能觸摸到天空”這幾句。
