生平簡介

出生於美國內布拉斯加州奧馬哈市的Conor Oberst成長在一個藝術家庭。在他兩歲時，他母親便發現他有很好的鋼琴天賦。在10歲時，他的父親和哥哥便開始教他吉他，剛只學會2個和弦的他便已經開始寫歌。從此，這個音樂天才開始進入人們的視線。
十二歲時，Conor受Cursive樂隊邀請，第一次登台演出。1993，十三歲的Conor推出了自己的首張專輯《Water》，其發行商是 Conor的哥哥Justin創立的Lumberjack Records。94年，Oberst和他的朋友Joel Petersen, Todd Fink 、Clark Baechle組建了樂隊 Norman Bailer，後來改名為The Faint。同年，Conor和Tim Kasher,、Todd Baechle 、Robb Nansel一起創建樂隊Commander Venus。其是一隻EMO風格的樂隊。96年，The Magnetas誕生，但就在同年消亡，其成員是Conor和Todd Fink，Chris Hughes。96至98年，Conor還在樂隊Park Ave擔任鼓手，98年時，樂隊解散。此外，Conor還組建了很多樂隊，包括01年的一隻朋克樂隊Desaparecidos以及為了自己以個人名義發表專輯而於07年組建的Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band等。
抗訴的樂隊所持續的時間都不長（至2009年），但Conor的有一隻樂隊卻是例外，那就是他在15歲創建的樂隊——Bright Eyes。其成員包括Conor Oberst – vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar、Mike Mogis – banjo, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, electric guitar、Nate Walcott – organ, trumpet, accordion, keytar以及隨時從Omaha's indie music scene中簽訂短期合作的成員。樂隊的名稱來自Conor看過得一部電影。現樂隊屬Saddle Creek Records旗下。
已經不記得這是Conor Oberst率領的第幾支樂隊了，總之在他的這幾支樂隊甚至他個人的演藝生涯里，Monsters of Folk才應該最受矚目，這支四人編制的民謠樂隊集結了Conor Oberst自己、Bright Eyes的班卓琴手Mike Mogis、My Morning Jacket的主唱Jim James以及獨立民謠唱將M. Ward。早在2004年，這幾個才華橫溢的傢伙就因為跟隨當時自己各自的樂隊巡演而彼此結識，對鄉村民謠音樂相似的見解讓四個人決定組成一支獨立隊伍，取名“Monsters of Folk”，經過相互磨合，四人將這五年間共同創作而出的作品集合成這張包含十五首歌曲的樂隊同名專輯，這當中既有單人演唱也有四人的合唱曲目，第一曲《Dear God》就因器樂編配上涉及到東方樂器而令人耳前一亮，之後的曲目儘管亮點不多卻也保持了四個創作人的水準，這張重量級唱片就是這樣以備受矚目的樂隊成員而好評如潮。

音樂特質

Conor的音樂靈感主要來自於旅行。正是因為他從不在一個地方待上3個月以上的怪癖，才使得他可以有無數風格迥異的優秀作品。為代表的是05年一口氣發行的兩張風格格格不入的專輯——《I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning》和《Digital Ash in a Digital Urn》。前者依舊是充滿了往常的鄉謠色彩，像在城市上空飛翔的感覺，而後者則充滿了死亡的氣息，電子味十足。更為直接的代表就是直接以地名為題的《Cassadaga》，整張專輯不如說都是在展示Conor在這座心理學研究中心所在小鎮的旅行雜記。
Conor的作品之所以優秀，還因為他獨特的敘事性的詞。因為其詞的優秀，很多人都習慣於將他和作詞大師Bob Dylan相比較。但2000年之前的Conor，作詞的範圍還僅限於自我意識的範疇，愛情和死亡時Conor的中心。直到布希上任，直到 9.11，Conor真正地和Bob Dylan一樣，用歌詞來抨擊政治。01年，Conor曾鮮明地表示過自己的觀點——反消費主義，反商業主義，反美國。Conor的歌詞不可以不稱為膽大，充滿了像《When The President Talks To God》那種赤裸裸地諷刺以及《Hot Knives》里的挑逗。而08年2月7日，Conor甚至在歐巴馬在Omaha的政治集會上演唱，無不顯示著他在政治方面的“熱情”。
