《Big Girls Don't Cry》的譜寫由菲姬和托比·蓋德完成。在菲姬加入黑眼豆豆之前，歌曲已經被譜寫出來。菲姬表示這是一首關於“獨立”的歌曲。歌曲的錄製在英國倫敦的Metropolis錄音室完成。黑眼豆豆創立人will.i.am不僅負責歌曲的製作，還負責了歌曲的貝斯、鼓點以及編輯工作。在製作過程中，will.i.am遇到了許多挑戰。
