《語義句法模式識別及其套用》作者戴汝為自上世紀70年代把當時新型學科模式識別介紹到國內，80年代在模式識別國際會議上發表論文，提出語義、句法模式識別，奠定了線上手寫漢字識別的理論基礎，從而形成了漢字識別的一系列發展；在此基礎上，進一步從學科交叉研究，運用系統論的觀點和綜合集成的方法論，在離線漢字識別方面又取得了重要進展。這些工作為我國漢字識別領域做出了重大貢獻。
