約翰·豪斯曼(John Houseman1902-1988)，美國舞台劇演出人，電影、廣播劇和電視劇製作人，但最出名的還是他後來作為性格演員的成就。1902年9月22日生於布加勒斯特，童年就隨父母走遍歐洲，在英國克利夫頓學院讀書。1925年來到美國，為各雜誌翻譯德、法舞台劇。30年代初進入紐約戲劇界，第一個重要職務是於1934年導演了他的第一個百老匯舞台劇《三幕戲中的四位聖人》；次年於奧森·韋爾斯一起組織“黑人戲劇項目”，這是工程進度管理署“聯邦喜劇規劃”的一部分，1937年他和韋爾斯組建了墨丘利劇院，在百老匯戲劇和廣播劇領域均取得成功。他同時擔任劇院的編劇和演出人。40年代初期進入電影界，在派拉蒙、雷電華公司擔任製片人，拍攝了《一位不知名女人的來信》（1948）、《他們生活在夜間》（1949）等影片。1952年轉入米高梅影片公司，並出任製片人，監製了一批優秀影片，其中《惡人與美女》（1952）獲得5項奧斯卡金像獎；《烏里尤斯·凱撒》獲得1954年威尼斯國際電影節的評審會特別獎；還有比較出名的《生活欲望》（1956）。在這同時，他繼續在百老匯擔任戲劇導演和演出人，50年代還在哥倫比亞廣播系統擔任電視製作人。他還在許多地方擔任藝術指導，比如美國莎士比亞戲劇節、朱麗葉德學校戲劇部和有他合作創辦的進行巡迴演出的表演團。從60年代開始，他參加影片演出，在1973年《學院風光》（另譯紙上的追逐）中塑造一位苛刻而專橫的法律學院教授，這部電影由他以前的弟子詹姆斯·布里奇斯導演，憑著出色的演出，獲得第46屆奧斯卡最佳男配角的金像獎，並使他於這個人物接下了不解之緣。他還在其他電影和電視節目中扮演了類似的角色。他出版了多卷回憶錄，包括《匆匆看過》（1972）、《前部與中心》（1979）和《最後的穿越》（1983）。於1988年10月31日去世。
