James Ingram 1956年出生於美國俄亥俄州阿克倫市，主要活躍於70-90年代。在70年代初曾在Revelation Funk表演過，後隨樂隊一同遷到洛杉磯。他在Quincy Jones 1980年的唱片The Dude 中的（Just Once）是他最初取得的成功，並獲得當年格萊美最佳流行男歌手和最佳R&B藝人獎。James Ingram的嗓音渾厚有力，歌聲中充滿了自信，堪稱是80年代最受歡迎的成人抒情/節奏藍調的第一把交椅，從他曾經獲得葛萊美獎15次提名就知道他的歌唱實力備受肯定。更是在1981，1984年兩次成為了格萊美年度最佳R&B男歌手。
