2012年，英國歌手兼詞曲作者Joe Janiak在班卓琴上寫的《Beating Heart》原始版本。他的靈感來自自於倫敦機場，當他把他的女友送下車後。當Ellie Goulding聽到後將這首歌曲改編了一些歌詞。2014年1月23日，Ellie Goulding證實她將這首歌曲作為電影《分歧者：異類覺醒》的配樂。該電影導演尼爾·博格（Neil Burger）說：我們開始研究電影和Ellie Goulding的專輯《Halcyon》，很快地發現了她歌曲的本質和她的語調於電影《分歧者：異類覺醒》完全匹配。
