另類導演范·山特的成名作，本片的調子處理得相當低沉苦悶，對年輕人空虛無助、以吸毒作為發泄的悲劇刻畫得十分深刻，主題具教化意味。這部低成本的小型影片從頭至尾表現出鮮明、強硬的反吸毒觀點，是描寫當前美國一大社會問題——吸毒的一部充滿辛辣諷刺的黑色喜劇片。
