現任美國土木工程學會(ASCE)結構工程雜誌(Journal of Structural Engineering)副主編;國際組合結構協會(ASCCS)理事;美國土木工程學會(ASCE)及美國混凝土協會(ACI)聯合委員會441(混凝土柱)、335(組合結構)委員;建築鋼結構進展雜誌特約編輯;美國土木工程學會(ASCE)會員;美國混凝土協會(ACI)會員。曾任湖南大學土木工程學院院長;美國大學地震工程研究協會(CUREE)前任理事,參與了NEES 協調組織的啟動;中國青年科技工作者協會建築與公路工程建設技術專業委員會副主任委員。

主要經歷

1978年10月至1982年9月,中國天津大學土建繫結構工程(工業與民用建築)專業,獲工學士學位。
1982年10月至1983年9月,出國預備研究生,大連外國語學院完成日語培訓。
1983年10月至1989年3月,日本九州大學工學部建築工學科,1986年3月獲工學碩士學位,1989年3月獲工學博士學位。1989年3月獲日本九州大學工學博士學位。
1989年3月至1990年3月,在日本東京青木建設株式會社研究所工作。
1990年3月至1992年3月,在美國加州大學聖迭哥校從事博士後研究工作。
1992年3月至1994年5月,美國加州大學聖迭哥校,研究員(Research Scientist)併兼任講師。
1994年6月獲美國職業註冊土木工程師執照, 同時被評為博士生導師。
1994年6月起,受聘於美國南加州大學土木系,歷任助理教授 (Assistant Professor)、副教授(Associate Professor)並獲終身教職。擔任系試驗室主任和工程與抗震研究中心主任。
2001年10月起,任教育部長江學者、湖南大學特聘教授。從事圍繞基於性能的抗震設計、高性能新材料的結構套用等綜合研究。
2005年1月起,受聘為“985工程”“現代結構與橋樑科技創新平台”首席科學家。
2006年5月起,任湖南大學土木工程學院院長。
2008年,受聘為中組部“千人計畫”學者。
2015年5月聘任為南京工業大學土木工程學院院長。
