早年經歷
德里克·雅可比出生於倫敦東區的雷頓斯通。母親戴莤·格特魯德是面料店店員，父親阿爾弗德·喬治·雅可比是菸草商。曾祖父是19世紀移民到英格蘭的德國人。德里克·雅可比形容他的童年生活是快樂的。在上中學時，他加入了當地的舞台劇團。在六年級時，德里克·雅克比在舞台劇《哈姆雷特》中扮演角色，並在愛丁堡邊緣藝術節的表演中大獲好評。
