學歷

1952年出生。

1974年畢業上海華東師範大學外語系英語專業；

1983年至1984年在美國俄勒岡大學從事語言學專業學習，獲得語言學碩士學位。1984年至1988年在美國康奈爾大學從事語言學專業學習，獲得語言學博士學位。

研究興趣主要在：漢語語法化、話語分析、和語言類型學。

工作經歷

1988 年至1990年在香港理工大學套用語言學系任高級講師；

1990年至1991年在美國威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校亞洲語言文學系任助理教授；

1991年至今在美國史丹福大學亞洲語言學系任教授及漢語項目協調員；

2000年至2003年任史丹福大學亞洲語言文學系主任；

2003年至2004年任史丹福大學人文社會科學中心研究員；

2006年至今任史丹福大學東亞研究中心主任；

2008年至今任史丹福大學亞洲語言文學系主任。

學術業績

孫朝奮教授是學界公認的當代國際知名的漢語語言學家。

他在歷史語言學 、功能語言學 和語言類型學等領域多有建樹，尤其是在漢語歷史語言學和漢語語法化研究方面有突出貢獻，在國際漢語學界產生了深遠的影響。

他在國外長期從事漢語作為第二語言教學工作，在理論與實踐層面作了很多研究和探索，積累了豐富的經驗，並出版了許多有影響的論著。
