他曾經被認為是影片《造雨人》中魯迪·貝勒的人選，但最終這個角色花落馬特·達蒙。後又被列入詹姆斯·卡梅隆的大片《鐵達尼號》中傑克的候選人。但史蒂芬很高興沒有出任角色，因為他不想被人記得是那艘船上的小伙子。他與演員當娜·洛格是好友，也是帕米拉·安德森的好友。
