歷史沿革
1993年正式脫離衣索比亞獨立，歷史上這裡是義大利殖民地。
獨立初期分為Barka、Senhit、Akele Guzai、Seraye、Denkalia、Gash-Setit、Asmara、Hamasien、Sahel、Semhar等10省。1997年重組為今6省。
