Tyler出生在帕克,科羅拉多州，美國。在他對音樂有興趣之前，他專注於體育。高中畢業後，他進入了美國空軍學院預備學校開始踢足球。然而他的氣質是不符合軍事紀律的，後來，他輟學了。離開空軍學院後，他被北科羅拉多大學接受，在尋求新聞學學位的同時他開始寫歌。Tyler把自己的音樂天賦歸功於他那接受過古典音樂訓練的音樂人媽媽，他稱其為“My mum rock”。
