這張《The Sound of Madness》是佛羅里達另類金屬樂隊Shinedown的第三張正式專輯，與他們上張專輯《Us and Them》相隔了近三年時間。在美國上市首周，《The Sound of Madness》共售出5萬張，空降本周Billboard 200專輯榜的第八位，成為他們打榜成績最好的一張專輯。2004年，Shinedown的處子專輯《Leave a Whisper》曾在Heatseekers專輯榜中獲得冠軍，在Billboard 200專輯榜中名列第53位。2005年，Shinedown的第二張專輯《Us and Them》在上榜首周排在第23位。
