創作背景

《The Way》參考並選錄了布蘭達·拉塞爾的歌曲《A Little Bit of Love》及Big Pun的歌曲《Still Not a Player》，於2013年1月錄製完成。愛莉安娜·格蘭德聽到該歌曲的人聲演示版本時，便立刻聯繫邁克·米勒，邀請他合作。

確認合作不久後的一天晚上，共和唱片的副總裁偶然從共和唱片創始人的辦公室聽到該歌曲，並觀看了愛莉安娜·格蘭德自製的視頻，便決定發行該曲。愛莉安娜·格蘭德對《The Way》及其MV的印象很糟糕，而且她對該曲毫不熱忱。
