A Brief Introduction to“The Rule of Homologous Linearity of Organic Compounds”
This monograph deals with a newly formulated quantitative relationship between molecular structures and physicochemical properties of organic compounds——the rule of homologous linearitty.Its content consists of a comprehensive discussion of the rule and a vast amount of property data cited to demonstrate its universality,exactnees and uniqueness.Detailed discussion is given for its applications in ascertaiining the structural basis of properties,differentiating the atructural effect of groups,correlating the linear relationships among properties,and providing a quantitative basis for the classification of electronic absorption spectra.
This monograph is essentially a complete collection of the original works on the new rule discovered by the author.Many parts of its content are published for the first time.This work was awarded the“Important Achievement Prize”at the National Congress of Sciences held in March 1978,and the“Natural Science Prize”by the National Commission of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China in October 1982.
This monograph may be used as a reference book for undergraduate and graduate students,teachers and research workers in the fields of physical organic,quantum organic and structural chemistry.
