Spain on Screen

內容簡介

This collection of essays from leading scholars in the field presents and explores the contemporary debates, concerns and controversies ongoing in Spanish film industry, culture and scholarship. Providing an overview of the latest developments and trends in Spanish film scholarship, the volume begins by focusing on the heated debate over Spanish film funding and of the role of short films in the contemporary Spanish film scene. It then turns to considerations of genre, auteurism and stardom, with the spotlight on the relationship between film and TV through the biopic. Also explored is the continued capacity of the horror genre for conservatism, the transnationality of Spanish film stars, the ways in which auteurism and advances in film theory allow women positive readings of explicit eroticism, and the question of the documentary as part of the current drive to recuperate Spanish memories of the Civil War. The essays reveal far-reaching shifts in the Spanish film scene, making essential reading for all interested in contemporary Spanish and European cinema.
