Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Cameron Crowe. Back in the seventies, it seemed that every rock band needed to have a live concert film to commemorate their triumphant treks across America. Led Zeppelin were no exception and THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME is a chronicle of Led Zeppelin on tour. Although the uninspired visual aspects of the film fail to capture the power of Led Zeppelin at their mid-seventies peak, the album manages to convey their live prowess. The twenty-six minute, hypnotic version of "Dazed and Confused" works much better here than in the film, where movie patrons would head to the concession stand ten minutes into the song. "Whole Lotta Love" gets a similar extended treatment and the results are equally impressive. THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME also lets you hear that songs like "Stairway To Heaven" sound wonderful even without the benefit of studio overdubs. Though not perfect, this is an honest documentation of the Led Zeppelin live experience, serving as a reminder that beneath the larger-than-life myths that surrounded the group, Led Zeppelin were simply a powerful blues-influenced rock band who lived for their music.(暫無中文評論)

由於Led Zeppelin從1969到1979年樂隊解散期間只公開發行了九張專輯，還有大量的Bootleg和Unauthorized Album未公開發布，只有極少的發行量並且是在核心樂迷和歌迷中傳播。所以有的專輯會沒有中文評論，甚至連英文的也很難找到，大家只能自己體會了。
Excepcional sonido de Mesa de Mezclas para una actuación realmente dura y salvaje de Led Zeppelin. A lo largo de este concierto vamos a poder disfrutar de una voz de Plant absolutamente genial, poderosa y salvaje como nunca, y de un Page desbocado, pura energía. Acerca de este concierto existe incluso un grupo de discusión en Internet, dado que es el concierto favorito de muchos fans de Led Zeppelin.
Las interpretaciones de "Sick Again" (que está enlazada con "The Song Remains the Same", mediante un fragmento de "The Rover") y "Nobody's Fault But Mine" son realmente mucho mejores y mas potentes que su versión original de estudio.
"In My Time Of Dying" es una versión opuesta a la que en 1975 realizaban, estando tocada de forma salvaje, a un ritmo demencial, "a la punk", tanto que incluso dura menos que la versión de estudio y eso que improvisan mas.

In the summer of 1980 Zeppelin toured extensively again in Europe, and seemed back to their best form. The tour (and much else, as it later emerged) ended in Berlin on July 7th. More bookings were lined up, including another major US tour. These plans all came to a sudden end when John Bonham was found dead after a drinking binge at Jimmy Page's house on September 25th. Page, Plant and Jones were clearly devastated, although Led Zeppelin did not formally disband until December.

Frequently bootlegged and now digitally remastered by Jimmy Page, these tapes capture a 25-month (1969 to 1971) arc in which Zep's sound grew to encompass the speed rush and jazz/blues festival stuff of their 1969 debut, the fully developed folkie musings of "Going to California" (in which Plant vowed to make a hejira right up to Joni Mitchell's front door), and the band's modestly popular multilayered epic "Stairway to Heaven." The Sessions also give a glimpse of nearly off-the-cuff invention in an intense take on Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues." Most other white blues musicians would've rushed to get this on vinyl; Page and Plant instead used it for parts, most notably taking its profound acoustic freneticism for Led Zeppelin III.

2003年5月27日，Atlantic公司發行了Led Zeppelin這張3cd裝的現場精選專輯。久違的Led Zeppelin這個名字再次被人提起。回想Led Zeppelin，其最大的魅力之一就是Jimmy Page手中那把吉他，而在現場，Jimmy Page那大篇幅的充滿Blues味道的solo部分得到了更大限度的發揮，這也許就是本張唱片的一大賣點。
與錄音版相比，演唱會更能直接體現出一個樂隊的才華，尤其是搖滾樂隊的即興創造，紮實功底。在本張精選的《Whole Lotta Love (Medley)》這首23分鐘的超長曲目中，Jimmy Page這個吉他天才就將其Blues即興演奏發揮得酣暢淋漓。
