早期樂隊發展
樂隊早期用名Schoolboy，到1981年在亞利桑那州鳳凰城正式成立樂隊時才換成Icon。當時還在讀高中的Dan Wexler、Stephen Clifford 和Tracy Wallach 三個朋友一起建立這個樂隊。後來加入的有吉他手David Henzerling 和鼓手John Covington，84年樂隊簽約Capitol Records。這個時候成員Henzerling 和Covington 離隊，而後加入的是吉他手 John Aquilino和鼓手Pat Dixon。
Icon早期形象
Icon早期形象84年7月發行同名專輯，85年發行專輯Night of the Crime，錄製期間主唱Stephen Clifford 因個人原因離隊。樂隊重新組編只在本地發行了一盒名為 More Perfect Union的卡帶，呈現出新主唱Jerry Harrison精緻的搖滾嗓音，還有新加入的鍵盤Kevin Stoller。雖然只是在本地發行，但樂隊還是很成功了吸引了一些新生代力量的關注。
89年在Atlantic/Megaforce旗下發行專輯Right Between the Eyes ，主唱是Jerry Harrison , Drew Bollman 擔任副吉他手。MV"Taking My Breath Away"在MTV頻道節目Headbangers' Ball播放，在專輯發行後的一些助唱演唱會後樂隊就解散了。主唱另外有自己的音樂工作，其他的樂隊成員仍舊繼續從事音樂創作，其中吉他手Dan Wexler 為Ailce Cooper作曲錄製專輯（Alice曾參與樂隊Holy Man's War單曲的幕後合聲）。94年發行A More Perfect Union的擴展版本（An Even）More Perfect Union其中包括了一些本來在Right Between The Eyes準備要發行的曲目。
重組
2008年樂隊為慶祝樂隊重組重新發行了在84年的一張現場DVD。之前的成員Wexler、 Aquilino & Dixon，還有前任成員Dave Henzerling 和新主唱Scott Hammons 已經在計畫準備新專輯。
09年主唱Scott Hammons 離隊，隨之取代主唱位置的是Sheldon Tarsha，之前計畫錄製的新歌仍舊還有被保留。
樂隊的2張專輯ICON和 Night of the Crime有希望在不久後重新發行。
