樂曲背景
Hand in glove作為樂隊的首張單曲於1983年5月發行，雖然在英國單曲榜上名落孫山，但卻在英國獨立音樂榜上拿到了第三名的好成績。相比於之後兩首比較成功的單曲"This Charming Man" 和 "What Difference Does It Make?" 這應該是一個巨大的打擊，莫里西後來說：“我對這首歌是如此的期待，對我而言，這是絕對足以讓人流淚的結果，它是一個重大事件。”
莫里西聲稱，當時馬爾給了他這首歌的demo磁帶，他回家後花了兩個小時寫出了歌詞。
起初他並沒有具體說明他想為Hand in glove設計封面，他告訴Rough Trade's 的美術部門，中間應有一張標籤，周圍有四個小孔包圍，封面要尊崇60年代的設計風格。平凡無特色的照片由Jim French拍攝，取自瑪格麗特沃爾特的歷史（Margaret Walters' history）中的裸體男人。
原始版本的“Hand in glove”是#G小調。歌曲一開始的口琴聲是由Johnny Marr提供的，Simon Goddard寫到“他吹奏的曲調聽起來就像是1962年披頭士樂隊的‘Love Me Do’，只不過聽起來更加惆悵。Marr芬芳的小調如同傾盆大雨，洗刷了所有絕望，同時Rourke貢獻了他最具靈感的低音貝司”
