Wake Owl樂隊中歌手兼詞曲作者的Colyn Cameron在2012前創作的十年里一直沉浸在音樂的世界。Colyn主要在加拿大溫哥華和美國俄勒岡州波特蘭市，Colyn出生、長大在南加州。“一開始我主要喜歡的是押韻的東西如Hip-Hop，”Colyn寫到，“我基本上寫說唱歌曲。過去我常常去學校周邊的地方說唱著自己寫的歌給那些願意聽的人聽。然後，大約七年前，我拿起了吉他自學一些基本的東西，並立即開始寫歌。”
在英國愛默生學院的有機農業處接受培訓的Colyn畢業後，在英國，德國，智利和加拿大不同的農場工作過，並週遊世界。Colyn發現他的旅途是寫歌的催化劑。“我的寫歌過程總是不斷變化的。在這些長期的但不會有太多我自己的空間的旅行後，我常常會找到許多靈感，就如潮水一般湧出。”他說道。
一回到溫哥華，Colyn就花了一些時間在樂隊里表演，最後才決定錄製那些他在旅途過程中寫的歌曲，由此誕生了首張EP——《Wild Country》。
