Ghost Security Group與鬆散的黑客組織“匿名者”完全不同，後者已經對IS組織宣戰，宣稱將癱瘓IS組織推特賬號。Ghost Security Group的少數成員曾加入“匿名者”，包括其綽號DIGitaShadow的領導者。
DigitaShadow稱，Ghost Security Group規模很小，但卻更專注。他說：“我們有組織和領導者，也有許多反恐經驗。我們有翻譯、語言學家以及研究分析師，可以處理和分析收到的所有數據。”
