性狀描述：白色晶體。熔點177-178℃。25℃蒸氣壓為1.33×10-11kPa。在25℃水中的溶解度為0.003%，溶於乙醇、乙醚，微溶於甲苯。

生產方法

由對氯苯酚與甲醛反應而得。縮後反應在溶劑甲醇（或乙醇）中進行，以硫酸為催化劑，反應溫度控制在-5℃以下。另一種工藝方法是以分子篩作催化劑，在這種情況下，對氯苯酚與甲醛的縮合反應在110℃進行。

用途

作殺菌滅藻劑。是法國“G-4”殺菌劑的主要成分。這種殺菌劑由29%雙氯酚、5%氫氧化鈉、6%乙二醇、59%水、1%對氯苯酚配製而成。使用本品時，一般加入適量的氫氧化鈉，使其以單鈉鹽形式存在。在大型化肥廠冷卻水系統中使用，水樣pH值為7.8-8.2，加入50-100ppm的G-4，作用24h，殺菌率超過98%；加入100ppm，殺菌率一直在99.65%以上，藥效比較長。

該品在農業上、醫藥上、製造肥皂中可作殺菌劑使用。雙氯酚也是一種抗蠕蟲藥物。
