百萬富翁喬治·維德(休·格蘭特)一舉一動都倚賴他的公司律師露西·凱爾森(桑德拉·布洛克)。露西是個優秀的律師，條理分明，但也有點神經質，不大睡得著覺。這份工作本身並不吸引她。吸引她的是喬治。他聰明，迷人，自我中心，對待她不象是對一個哈佛出來的律師，倒象是對保姆——沒有她幫忙他連一條領帶都不會選擇。露西幫助喬治打點從服裝到離婚案的所有大小事物，現在，五年過去，她終於受不了要叫停。
喬治製造種種困難，不讓露西離開他的公司，但最終還是答應讓她走，只要能找到一個夠好的人代替她。一通尋找之後，露西僱傭了一個野心勃勃的年輕律師瓊(艾麗西亞·維特)。瓊聰明漂亮，她的眼睛顯然盯在她富有的新老闆身上，喬治也仿佛受到她的吸引。露西終於擺脫了喬治和他的24小時服務的工作，準備要改變自己的生活航道，和自己忠心耿耿的男朋友一起去海上旅行。但是她能離開嗎？
這時喬治發現自己已經離不開露西。眼看她漸漸遠離自己的生活，喬治坐不住了。他必須想明白：對一個人說“我愛你”是否會太遲？而露西在離開後面對自己，也不能逃避這同樣的一個問題。兩個關係緊密的人在分開之後才開始明白自己的感情，而時間正在過去，到底要不要去跟他/她說“我愛你”？
[製作]
這部片子製作完成之前，甚至在還沒正式開始之前，緋聞已經傳出來了。桑德拉·布洛克和休·格蘭特之間到底有沒有親密關係？這兩個人幾年前就討論過合作的可能。休說桑德拉“可以同時表現得迷人，有趣，聰明，可信，浪漫。我們幾年前確實碰過頭，商量過合作的事。”不過這件事情一直到了編劇馬克·勞倫斯的劇本出來，才算終於得到機會。勞倫斯說他是心裡想著桑德拉·布洛克寫這個劇本的。桑德拉一直在關注他的劇本，並不時發表一些意見，改幾句台詞，但她並不知道原來劇本就是為她寫的。
勞倫斯寫完之後直奔休·格蘭特，讓後者出演男主角。休·格蘭特這幾年經過一陣低潮，又回到最具吸引力的明星行列，在連續演出了《關於一個男孩》、《BJ單身日記》、《諾丁山》等浪漫喜劇後，他的票房號召力使製片人及導演人對他趨之若鶩。勞倫斯和桑德拉則是老搭檔了。他為她寫過《觸電之旅》(Force Of Nature)和《選美小姐》的劇本，這回勞倫斯不僅寫劇本，也要親自做導演。本片是他的導演處女作。從編劇轉來做導演，勞倫斯稱很有意思，並舉例說，當他起身去衛生間，拍攝場裡的步話機都在互相通告這一事情，讓他感覺很讓人興奮，而和上百人合作也很讓他覺得享受。而且儘管是第一次執導，桑德拉對他充滿信任，讓他工作起來舒服許多，桑德拉本人又擔任影片製片人，兩人可以說對整部影片的製作，大小事情，都密切配合。桑德拉對做幕後工作充滿興趣，幾年前就成立了自己的製片公司參與影片的拍攝工作。她說有時候覺得做製片工作比做演員更讓她高興，因為中間有更多合作因素，合作愉快比獨自研究演技更吸引人。
而對和休·格蘭特一起演戲桑德拉顯得十分愉快。她說：“演一出浪漫喜劇很讓人害怕，具有挑戰性。表現得有趣已經夠難了，和另一個人之間發生化學反應也不容易。我覺得很幸運能和馬克和休一起工作。我真的仰慕這兩個人。”休·格蘭特把握角色的微妙情感以及處理台詞的能力也讓桑德拉和其他同事讚嘆。這兩個人在一起常常笑得不可開交，工作的氣氛就象戲本身一樣輕鬆愉快。
面對緋聞兩人雙雙否認，但說話間又互相開玩笑，甚至導演也插一腳，聲稱其實是他和休之間發生了感情：“他太吸引人了…別告訴我太太。”這么虛虛實實倒很為影片製造了些花絮，不過從後來的情況來看，並沒有如傳聞那樣，男女主角深陷愛河。又或者藏得很好，外人無從得知。不過還是影片最重要，聖誕期間有這等輕鬆浪漫片看，觀眾高興就好。
影片在紐約取景。劇組希望能從多方面表現紐約的城市建築風貌，從上空拍了許多平時看不見的畫面，十分壯觀。就如桑德拉所說，“在經歷過一切之後，這座城市依然強壯，讓人著迷。”片中其他場景的拍攝地點也精心選擇，從喬治公司的大樓到露西臥室的設計，都從表現人物和情節考慮，力圖準確。
有人統計了桑德拉·布洛克和休·格蘭特的票房收入情況，列出一系列數據，發現格蘭特1995年以後的浪漫喜劇片收入平均有7千多萬美元，桑德拉·布洛克主演的電影平均票房接近5千萬，而由馬克·勞倫斯編劇，桑德拉·布洛克主演的兩部電影票房平均收入接近8千萬，而桑德拉的代表作《二見鐘情》中她的角色名字也叫露西，該片收入超過8千萬，再加上別的一些數字，得出結論如下：本片票房收入預計為67,670,896美元。和《兩周情人》同期上映的前有來勢洶洶的魔幻巨片《魔戒2：雙塔奇兵》，後有馬丁·斯科西斯企圖再造經典的《紐約黑幫》，桑德拉+休的魅力是否能抗得過這兩股勢力的聯合夾擊，很快我們就可以知道。

好萊塢的浪漫電影中擔綱的男女主角常常不是年輕男女，他們的一線演員也多半超過三十，卻益發迷人，比如休·格蘭特，帶著英國氣息和諸位美國美女合作，相得益彰；桑德拉·布洛克從《生死時速》大紅時也有三十了，在電影裡一樣秀美，討人喜歡。看這樣的人在銀幕上，成熟美麗，談起戀愛，一樣問題重重，財富和智商統統不管用，愛還是不愛，說還是不說，總是個問題。
小時候總要等快睡覺了才發現作業沒有做，這都沒什麼打緊，長大以後總要等某人離開了才發現自己愛他，問題就大了。怎么就弄不清自己的感情？還好是好萊塢，他們對愛情總是充滿信心，不肯讓相愛的人彼此錯過，所以大家都知道愛情戰勝一切，從不擔心，只管享受銀幕上的悲喜交加。看完了，把身邊人的手握緊些。
