衛星體

衛星病毒或衛星核酸是依賴於與其共同侵染寄主細胞的輔助病毒進行繁殖的核酸分子，其核酸序列與輔助病毒基因組沒有明顯的同源性。

衛星體基本特性

核酸分子若含有編碼外殼蛋白的遺傳信息，並能包裹成形態學和血清學與輔助病毒不同的顆粒，稱為衛星病毒；若核酸本身沒有編碼外殼蛋白的遺傳信息，而是被包裹於輔助病毒編碼的外殼蛋白中，稱為衛星核酸。另一種說法是。衛星體是一類僅由核酸分子組成的亞病毒因子，在輔助病毒存在下能共感染宿主細胞，並進行混合複製，衛星體獲得衣殼的結構基因後稱為衛星病毒。

衛星病毒或衛星核酸與輔助病毒和寄主之間有著專化性關係，表現為對病毒病症狀的高度特異性調節。一些衛星病毒或衛星核酸，如葡萄扇葉病毒衛星RNA、蕪菁皺縮病毒衛星RNA、花生叢簇病毒衛星RNA等，能加重其輔助病毒在寄主上引起的症狀。另一些衛星病毒或病毒核酸則能減輕寄主的發病症狀，如菸草環斑病毒衛星RNA能減輕菸草環斑病毒在黑眼豇豆上引起的嚴重症狀，使症狀幾乎消失。還有一些衛星病毒或病毒核酸，如菸草壞死衛星病毒和菸草花葉衛星病毒等，對於各自輔助病毒引起的症狀都沒有調節作用。
