--電影講述了這么個故事，紐約的年輕人泰普周末回家在路上拾到一個錢包，裡面沒什麼東西，連錢也沒有。當天晚上泰普已經約好了幾個老朋友在他家打撲克娛樂，在朋友來到之前泰普根據錢包里的一個電話號碼留言給失主，說自己拾到了錢包希望對方上他家來領取，打完電話泰普突然發現錢包里有一張彩票，彩票上的號碼是中了當天樂透開出的巨獎600萬美元，泰普經過一番心理掙扎，最終將自己沒中的彩票換了錢包里的彩票，你可以想像得到，泰普是多么地後悔打了那個電話。
故事才剛剛開始，因為失主上門了。失主是位黑人出租司機，他看了泰普還給他的錢包後不動聲色，並接受了泰普的朋友們的邀請坐下來和他們一起玩撲克牌，整部電影就是泰普和黑人司機間的心理抗衡，泰普想得到這筆錢，黑人老頭知道輕易拿不回自己的錢，但是為了家，為了自己的孫女，頑強地在堅持，而周邊的人都蒙在鼓裡。最後，幾個朋友發覺了實情，並要求大家平分，但此刻泰普良心發現，他決定並把彩票歸還給了司機。人都走了，當他一個人留在家裡的時候他打電話給女友說“我愛你”時，我相信擁有財富的感覺充滿了他的內心。
電影在這個時候結束多好啊，可是沒有，因為真正的失主上門了。
