米歇爾·科甘父親是斯托克港當地的一名警察，在米歇爾·科甘13歲時其父母離婚，父母離婚後她跟她母親還有哥哥一起居住。
情感
米歇爾·科甘在2006年認識了《Hollyoaks》演員Anthony Quinlan，不過兩人在2008年分手，2008年米歇爾·科甘又結識了英國模特Brad Howard，好景不長，在2010年米歇爾·科甘又與其分手，到了2010年12月，米歇爾·科甘和The Wanted組合的Max George訂婚，在2012年7月兩人因為“工作繁忙”而分手。米歇爾·科甘現任男友是馬克·懷特（Mark Wright--英國真人秀男星），兩人在2013年1月相識。
