the small to medium sponges are rather variably formed,but are always built of globular to bulbous units resulting in a more or less knobbly overall shape.bulbously ramifying shapes also occur.the sponges are attached to hard substrates.the complete sponge body consists of an irregular three-dimensional network of anastomosing calcareous fibres building small cavities and canals,possibly in parts covered by a thin dermal layer.
