背景
因新媒體聯盟在其2013年的年度“地平線報告”（Horizon Report，其目的在於識別未來一到五年間，可能在教育中普及套用並成為主流的六項新興技術）中提到學習分析學（Learning Analytics），而迅速被教育行業重視，學習分析學的發端與教育數據挖掘（EDM, Education Data Mining）和商業智慧型（Business Intelligence）多年來的發展，以及近年來大數據（Big Data）的興起均有密切的相關，可視作為大數據在教育領域的套用。
定義
學習分析學是以理解和最佳化學習及學習發生之環境為目的，所進行的有關學習者及其環境的數據之測量、採集、分析和報告
