主要研究方向：被子植物生殖發育生物學和生殖細胞工程
多年來一直致力於被子植物受精與胚胎髮生的研究。
教育及工作經歷：
1982年六月畢業於華中師範大學生物系。
1991—1994於武漢大學獲博士學位並留校工作。曾在荷蘭、義大利、德國等從事博士後研究或合作科研。1999年回國，現任武漢大學植物發育生物學教 授，博士生導師，植物生殖發育與生殖工程研究室主任，植物發育生物學教育部重點實驗室副主任，中國細胞生物學會理事，中國細胞生物學會信號轉導專業委員會 副主任等職。
主要社會兼職：
中國細胞生物學會資深理事，中國植物學會植物結構與生殖生物學專業委員會副主任，湖北省細胞生物學會副理事長等職。兼任“植物科學學報”副主編，“PLoS ONE”，“Journal of Integrative Plant Biology”，“Plant Science and Molecular Breeding”， “Turkish Journal of Botany”，“Chinese Science Bulletin” and “中國細胞生物學報” 等雜誌編委。
主要研究領域及興趣：
1. 被子植物受精的分子機制：主要探討雄配子體與雌蕊的相互作用機制；配子發育與特化的分子機制；受精過程中配子的相互作用。
2. 被子植物早期胚胎髮生分子機制：胚胎髮生啟動的分子機制；胚胎髮生中細胞命運決定；胚胎髮生中細胞程式性死亡。

近年來先後獲得的獎勵
部級優秀教材一等獎；部級科技進步三等獎；並獲教育部“資助優秀年輕教師基金”、 “跨世紀人才”培養計畫基金，及國家自然科學基金委“傑出青年基金”。先後參加或主持過科研項目二十餘項，包括國家自然科學基金重大項目、重點項目、歐盟國際合作項目、973項目等。發表論文六十餘篇。
