周傳明，1990年畢業於北京大學地質系岩礦及地球化學專業，1993年和2002年獲中國科學院南京地質古生物研究所碩士和博士學位。1993年起在中國科學院南京地質古生物研究所工作，其間於1999—2000和2003—2004分別在英國牛津大學和美國維吉尼亞工學院和州立大學進行合作研究。研究方向主要是晚前寒武紀地質生物學，研究領域包括新元古代冰期事件、埃迪卡拉系古生物學、綜合地層學、前寒武系/寒武系界線事件地質學等。
