故事介紹
加菲貓於1982年首次以電視動畫出現在美國的電視台。直至1990年代初，共有至少12出加菲貓電視特別版。在1988年至1994年間，更曾推出一套加菲貓電視系列 《Garfield And Friends》（加菲貓和他的朋友們），作品中還安排了原創動畫“U.S.Acres”。
2008年間於法國上映加菲貓3D版系列卡通片（The Garfield Show），後期在2009年5月於美國Cartoon Network頻道播出
隔年亦於Cartoon Network台灣區頻道播出，以混搭台灣地理文化、台語配音為賣點（如節目內包括加菲貓等角色會說台語、喬恩發現屋內臟亂不堪時曾以從前新北市的福德坑垃圾山擬比情況） 香港無線電視亦曾以《大食懶加菲貓》為標題播出該節目。
現時各地均有此系列的DVD發行。

主要角色
（加菲貓部分）
·加菲貓-------肥胖,懶惰的橙色虎斑貓,喜歡吃飯、睡覺、欺負歐弟、喜歡把娜爾曼寄到阿布達比、捉弄郵差。 內心深處愛喬恩和歐弟，加菲從不那么說，但觀眾會明白。
·喬恩·阿弗克-------加菲貓的主人，漫畫家。有時顯得呆瀉。經常被加菲的行為而惹惱。喜歡莉莎。 只要加菲惹上麻煩,喬恩就懲罰他,比如不讓他看電視。喬恩需要引導加菲貓做對的事情。 喬恩偶爾讓加菲去捉老鼠，但總是不成功，因為加菲不喜歡吃老鼠，並且加菲和弗洛伊德老鼠是朋友。
·歐弟-------加菲最好的朋友。 他曾經屬於喬恩的前室友萊曼(從不出現在節目中,但是是一個人物，出現在最早的漫畫裡)。經常被加菲貓踢下桌子。 看起來令人難以置信的愚蠢並且容易上當受騙,但實際上更狡猾和聰明。 歐弟是唯一一個不通過語言而是通過肢體動作表達意思的動物形象，加菲通常明白他的意思。（注意歐弟的聲音是有演員配音的）
·娜爾曼-------一個可愛的灰色虎斑小貓，自稱是“世界上最可愛的貓”。娜爾曼很頑皮,喜歡騷擾加菲並吹噓自己是多么可愛多。 加菲常把娜爾曼打包成郵件寄到阿布達比（通常失敗）。 雖然正式被認為是男性,但因為娜爾曼的配音是一位女士，所以導致娜爾曼的性別模糊,前兩季,西班牙版里娜爾曼作為女性小貓叫“西爾瑪”。
·布奇-------一隻泰迪熊，加菲視布奇為好同伴，並帶著布奇睡覺。初次被發現是在抽屜里,他是加菲唯一的玩具。“披斗篷的復仇者”後加菲貓暫時失去波奇。
·弗洛伊德-------一隻老鼠，一天搬到加菲貓的家裡，發現有貓很害怕，但當加菲貓多次表示不會傷害他並不吃老鼠後，和加菲貓成為了好朋友。偶爾被喬恩發現，之後會和加菲貓一起“作弄”喬恩。他很喜歡上鏡並且儘可能的請求加菲貓給他更多的機會出場。
·賓奇小丑-------總是大聲叫著，所以有些招人討厭（動畫裡，並非指觀眾）。有自己的系列節目。加菲和歐弟看電視時總是儘量避免看到。他的口頭禪是,“Heeeeeey,kiiiiiiids ! ”（嗨！孩子們！）看到加菲貓會改成“Heeeeeeeeeeeey,cat!”（嗨！貓！）
·赫爾曼郵差-------一個喜歡給人送信的郵差。不斷受害於加菲貓的陷阱。每當赫爾曼離職、被辭退或者度假時，最後他的老闆都會把他叫回來，因為沒人能夠做到去給加菲貓送信。
·莉莎·威爾遜-------加菲貓的獸醫。偶爾和喬恩約會，但經常因為加菲貓的陪同約會而受難。集

（農場部分）
·奧森豬-------一隻豬。是農場裡的管理者、領袖（另有原因）。給其他人分配工作並調解友誼是他的工作。喜歡讀書。每當奧森讀書時周圍的場景都和奧森讀的內容一樣。奧森到這的原因是他有兩個任務：讓羅伊做對的事情和讓韋德變得勇敢。奧森有潔癖，經常洗澡，有次韋德說奧森是世界上最乾淨的豬。他扮演者羅伊、韋德、波、蘭洛琳、布克的好朋友和謝爾頓“父親”的形象。奧森害怕自己的兄弟們。奧森豬非常喜歡角色扮演，警長、偵探、超級特工等等他都有所嘗試並且成功進入角色。當出現緊急情況時，他的另一個身份——超級英雄旋風豬便會登場。
·韋德鴨-------懦弱的鴨子，帶著個游泳圈，上面有個mini的韋德，基本和韋德本身的表情一致或共鳴。恐懼任何東西，哪怕那微不足道。當他害怕時（幾乎所有）會胡言亂語，別人不能理解他的話。韋德最怕黃鼠狼。
·羅伊公雞-------自我中心的公雞，喜歡惡作劇。總是不斷計畫惡搞，通常是奧森或別人出面阻止。儘管他自私但卻是一隻盡職盡責的好公雞。羅伊和韋德是特別緊密的朋友，動畫裡甚至曾暗視韋德和羅伊認識14年左右。
·波-------和藹可親的羊，有著積極但懶散的生活態度。幾乎不會生氣，生氣的理由是別人欺負自己朋友時。換句話說這是一個非常誠實的老實綿羊，但是一旦這樣的老實人也發火的時候就證明——他真的生氣了！惹怒他的人要小心了！
·蘭洛琳-------波的妹妹，總是花大把時間想自己和哥哥的事情，經常和哥哥吵架。有時脾氣暴躁。和奧森關係最好。
·布克-------“小孩子”，可愛又自信的小雞，不斷在追無名的蟲子，他的名字取自奧森喜歡的書。
·謝爾頓-------布克的孿生兄弟。曾經被孵化過，單只有腳破殼了。他似乎有“各種各樣”的東西在殼裡，不過是另一個殼。沒人知道布克和謝爾頓的父母是誰，卡通片中有所描述，謝爾頓和他的哥哥布克兒是被奧森豬孵化出來的。
次要人物
（加菲貓部分）
·仙人掌傑克-------度假牧場的工頭，用老的方式表現牛仔，拒絕現代技術。
·艾爾騙子-------有個大鼻子，如他的名字一樣，他是個商人，經常騙喬恩上當，但最後總被加菲智取得勝。他總叫錯喬恩的名字，如：“Arborday先生”或“Arbarnacle先生”
·巴迪熊-------三隻熊的團體，名字分別是比例、鮑比、伯地（在加菲貓歌劇那集介紹自己正式名字為，威廉羅伯特和伯特倫）。他們三個總以歌舞形式宣楊墨守陳規是對的，比如，我們是巴迪熊，我們總是……如果你不同意，這意味著你是錯的。等等。他們的節目取代賓奇。羅伊曾兩次參與該節目，卻成了替罪羔羊。巴迪熊諷刺了某些1980年卡通片關注的“關懷”等情節。系列結尾有一個4號女巴迪熊，是他們的妹妹貝蒂。他們總是被加菲貓用披薩拍臉“終結”。
·瘋子莫里-------二手垃圾推銷員（宣布自己瘋了）類似騙子先生，試圖讓喬恩買便宜垃圾。
·唱歌的螞蟻-------第一次出場偷了加菲的野餐食物。總是以唱歌的方式表現。
·佩內洛普-------加菲貓的女朋友。
·魯迪-------每當加菲貓在電視節目上批評狗時這隻叫魯迪的狗都會出來教訓加菲貓。曾被加菲貓“誘導”在電視上跳了踢踏舞。
·魯德羅-------青年烏鴉，他父親總覺得加菲貓吃了他兒子。喜歡和貓玩。曾被加菲貓救過。
·歐文·伯恩賽德-------喬恩的鄰居，總被加菲貓“入侵”（通常是偷燒烤），之後他會威脅要毆打喬恩。
（農場部分）
·奧森的哥哥們-------名字分別為，莫特、高、疣。比奧森年長的三兄弟，經常欺負奧森或試圖偷農場裡的菜。很少叫奧森的名字，而是稱其為“那隻弱小的豬”。儘管是三胞胎卻不同體型。莫特最矮，高最聰明有黃色眼睛（儘管很多時候有黃色眼睛的不是高）並有齙牙，疣是最高的。
·弗雷德鴨-------穿降落傘飛行，因為他有恐高症。
·牛頓鴨-------記憶力差，幾乎沒有。
·小蟲-------布克經常追他們，但沒成功。他們不願透露名字但漫畫裡有一個蟲子叫“榛樹”
·黃鼠狼-------無名，總是偷偷摸摸試圖綁架雞。通常是羅伊（偶爾是韋德）阻止他。
·狐狸-------試圖綁架謝爾頓，儘管總說“看起來不熟”（指謝爾頓）
·狼-------和黃鼠狼一樣偷雞
·克洛伊-------羅伊的侄女，書生氣。羅伊總說不喜歡她，但關鍵時刻會去救克洛伊。
·柏拉圖-------棕毛的公雞，當他來到農場工作，女士們都很喜歡他，但由於膽小不敢面對黃鼠狼被趕出了農場。

動畫音樂
每一集由Gary Owens 說“女士們，先生們，加菲貓和他的朋友們！”（原文：Ladies and gentlemen,Garfield and Friends!）加菲貓將在柵欄上跳踢踏舞。
第一個主題曲的主題是友誼，用歌舞風格宣傳。
第二個，速度加快，這次是加菲貓和其他演員合唱這首歌。畫面是以往的剪輯。
每個主題曲結束後布克都會用鉛筆在加菲貓名字下面寫下和朋友的字樣。然後加菲貓將出現在標題旁一個小視窗，說一個笑話結束主題曲（如，歡迎來到我的世界……你帶食物了嗎？、給你一塊口香糖願你的口氣永遠清新等等）

作品評價
《加菲貓和他的朋友們》第七季（1994—1995）是最後一季，原因是哥倫比亞廣播公司打算削減預算（事實上CBS每周六早上的卡通節目被CBS用新聞取代，兩年後最終演變成周六早期節目）製作公司拒絕了該提議，他們互相同意停止《加菲貓和他的朋友們》的續集。儘管該片評價一直很好。
