丘成棟

丘成棟教授在數學、套用數學控制論計算機科學金融數學生物信息等國際前沿研究領域取得了大量原始創新成果,先後發表兩百多篇學術論文,其中包括《PNAS》、《Ann. of Math.》、《Invent. Math.》等等這樣的國際頂尖數學刊物。 他解決了復幾何奇點理論中的一些國際著名的猜想。是第一個成功地將李代數用來研究代數幾何中的超曲面奇點,如今這個代數被同行稱為Yau 代數。 丘成棟教授及他的合作者還解決了非線性濾波理論中的一個中心的問題(解決了Mitter猜想),完全解決了非線性濾波器的理論問題,這對現代工業,包括國防工業將會有深遠的影響。 在生物信息方面,他在DNA蛋白質2維表示法方面的成果發表在世界頂尖雜誌《Nuclei Acid Research 》上。 最近,他開創了natural vector方法來表示基因組蛋白質

丘成棟,男,原籍廣東省梅州市蕉嶺縣,1952年生於香港,曾任美國伊利諾伊大學芝加哥分校數學、統計和計算機科學系特聘教授,該校信息控制實驗室主任,IEEE Fellow,國際頂尖數學專業雜誌《Journal of Algebraic Geometry》創始人與主編、《Communications in Information and Systems》創始人與主編。

2011年6月,著名數學家丘成棟(Stephen Yau)教授辭去美國伊利諾伊大學芝加哥分校的永久職位,接受清華大學邀請,全職到清華大學數學科學系工作。他已來到清華大學並辦完入職手續,成為了清華大學的一名正式教授。

此後,丘成棟教授將全身心地投入到清華大學數學學科的發展與建設,為清華大學數學學科的教學科研、學科建設、人才隊伍建設和國際合作交流等作出貢獻。丘成棟教授1976年獲美國紐約州立大學石溪分校博士學位,歷任美國普林斯頓高等研究院成員(1976-77),哈佛大學Benjamin Pierce助理教授(1977-80),伊利諾伊大學芝加哥分校數學、統計和計算機科學系副教授(1980-84)、教授(1984-)、特聘教授(2005-)。  
他開創了natural vector方法來表示基因組蛋白質。 如果兩個基因組蛋白質從生物意義上互相接近,那么它們的natural vector具有很近的距離。因此,natural vector方法不僅對基因組蛋白質提供了快速、唯一的表示,而且成為有力的聚類和預測工具。基於natural vector方法,丘教授計畫構造一個基因組資料庫和一個蛋白質資料庫。與當前的基因組蛋白質資料庫不同,他構造的新的資料庫將支持對所有已知的基因組蛋白質進行同時的比較研究。公共蛋白質資料庫記錄了當前有超過八百萬的蛋白質存在。在如今的方法中,只有natural vector方法可以完成同時比較這個“不可能的任務”。丘教授計畫在清華大學組建一個團隊來開展這個科研項目。
