上世紀八十年代中後期，Pixies被主流媒體認定為一種很糟糕的音樂，樂隊當時將朋克和獨立吉他搖滾結合起來，邋邋遢遢、大起大落的“髒”吉他、跌跌撞撞的情緒、流行搖滾的親和力這些後來Grunge的看家本領在他們的身上已初見端倪。可以毫不誇張說，沒有他們就不會有日後的Grunge和搖滾神級樂隊Nirvana。Pixies作為當時最具影響力的獨立搖滾樂隊，為日後另類搖滾打入主流社會做了有力的鋪墊，他們的音樂風格融合了朋克、吉他搖滾等樂風，音樂以探討宇宙、外星生物、宗教、死亡等令人毛骨悚然的思想為主，也許這也是Pixies在當時沒有受到學院派重視的一個原因。當時的主流媒體對他們持排擠態度，甚至沒有人願意播放他們的作品，儘管全美國都承認Pixies是當時最有影響力的另類搖滾樂隊之一。進入九十年代後，Kurt Cobain最終憑藉他最喜歡的樂隊——Pixies的影響一舉成名，Nirvana繼承了Pixies的風格，並傳播給了更多的新樂隊，Grunge開始狂掃美國。然而Pixies卻沒有看到這一天的來臨——1991年前後，樂隊成員之間的矛盾最終導致了樂隊的解體。但他們的影響是深遠的，今天的Post-Grunge、Brit-pop中我們依然能夠看到Pixies從前的身影。
