演唱者 Suzanne Vega 是八十年代民謠運動復興的領軍人物，她既是一名歌手，又是一個出色的詞曲作家。1985年其處女同名專輯《Suzanne Vega》發表，受到樂評界一致好評，並且在英美兩地銷量出奇地好。著名的《滾石》雜誌（“Rolling Stone”）還把該專輯評為八十年代最出色百大專輯之一。此後 Suzanne Vega 便在世界各地巡演，並被邀請到如 Royal Albert 音樂廳，Carnegie 音樂廳，Radio City Music 音樂廳等此類高等的地方演出。1986年，Suzanne Vega 為 Philip Glass 的管弦樂隊譜了兩首曲子。
1987年 Suzanne Vega 的第二張專輯《Solitude Standing》（孤獨站立）在商業上取得了更大的成功，在全世界的銷量達到了300萬張，專輯中的“Tom's Diner”和 “Luka”更是成為經典名曲。
