創作背景
1984年，Sade推出處女作《Diamond Life（鑽石生活）》，分別獲BPI獎“最佳英國團輯”與葛萊美獎“最佳新進藝人”的肯定，而這張專輯在英國排行榜的停留時間更達98 周之久。其中這首“Smooth Operator”躋進全美流行榜Top 5。隨即Sade在1985年獲得第27屆葛萊美“最佳新進藝人”獎座，並於1986年成為美國“時代”雜誌的封面人物。
Smooth Operator，如果你是個經常坐在酒吧里閒聊聽歌的FB份子，肯定會對這首歌很熟悉。Sade曾於80年代初期在聖馬丁藝術學校（St. Martin's School Of Art）的求學期間組成生平的第一個樂團Arriva並嘗試填詞譜曲，Smooth Operator就是這個時期的作品。
