作者簡介
Nathaniel Hawthorne,Born on the 4th of July in 1804, in Salem, Massachusetts, Nathaniel Hawthorne's roots went deep into the soil of America. One of his ancestors was a judge at the infamous Salem witchcraft trials of 1692-1693. Some Hawthorne scholars suggest that this connection-and perhaps some lingering guilt on Hawthorne's part for his ancestor's role in the trials-led him to his study of Puritan intolerance that inspired his greatest work, The Scarlet Letter, published in 1850.
