根據法國作家佛雷德里克·格伯德同名小說改編。奧克塔夫是知名廣告公司的創意總監，在厭倦了時尚名流們奢侈攀比的浮華生活之後，他決定寫一本惡毒攻擊廣告行業的書，作為辭職前的告別演出。打著收集素材的旗號，他開始了墮落的生活，與名流們出入各類聲色場所，每個周末都在毒品、性與死亡的包圍中度過，直到他遇見一個名叫索菲亞的女孩。愛情讓奧克塔夫暫時從物慾橫流的世界抽身出來，當他想享受寧靜生活的美好，卻發現已經為時已晚。
