個人簡介

1969年-1978年 黑龍江生產建設兵團知青.1978年--1981年國際經濟貿易大學(北京)經濟學碩士(中國經濟史專業，1981) .1983年進入美國普林斯頓大學，師從杜希德先生攻讀博士學位。畢業後，任教於新加坡南洋理工大學教育學院，為準教授。曾任日本關西大學COE客座教授（2008年12月-2009年2月）。著有《漢唐中日關係論》（文津出版社，1997）。

王貞平是中國古代史研究領域的專家，在唐代外交制度史、對外經濟貿易史、中日關係史等方面有很高的造詣，是國際上有較高影響力的學者。他的英文專著《漢唐中日關係史》出版後，引起學界廣泛關注。包括美國《哈佛大學亞洲學志》、《美國歷史評論》、倫敦大學《亞非學院紀要》、日本《日本學志》、《日本時報》、加拿大《國際歷史評論》在內的美、英、日、學術雜誌報刊共發表了九篇書評，給以很高的評價。他先後擔任美國普林斯頓大學《東亞圖書館雜誌》主編，印度尼赫魯大學《中古史雜誌》顧問、日本關西大學《東亞文化交流研究雜誌》顧問。數次赴日本關西大學發表主題講演，擔任客座教授。他在2009年剛剛完成另外一部英文著作《多極亞洲中的唐代中國》（共六百餘頁，將由美國夏威夷大學出版），全面探討唐代的外交關係。王貞平被列入美國《當代作者》一書中，是當今活躍在美國、日本學界的引人注目的學者。
