最初，她只能憑藉自己嬌好的身段給花花公子雜誌做模特，然後她開始去好萊塢碰碰運氣，在她的頭兩部片子中，她扮演的都是些無足輕重的小角色。《成長的煩惱》劇中的表演是她在不懈的努力之後第一次獲得演“正規的受人尊敬的”角色的機會。她感覺這是幸運女神開始垂青於她的跡象，於是就加倍的努力以演好自己的角色（至於好不好我想廣大“成長迷”們心中必有定論）。但不幸卻很快來臨了，Mike的扮演者Kirk Cameron的經紀人，他的母親——一個虔誠的基督徒——反對一個在花花公子做過模特的人和他的兒子演對手戲。而與此同時花花公子卻推出了Julie的全裸寫真集，這對Julie的事業無疑是雪上加霜。很快，Julie就被《成長的煩惱》劇組在劇中抹去了。
