小托葉組葉長圓形或多少呈披針形，基部微心形時，為淺的（約3毫米）盾狀著生或非盾狀著生，蒴果雙球形，無刺或具軟刺。

葉通常多少卵形，具基出脈3條，基部具小托葉2枚，葉柄長；雄蕊6-8枚；雌花的萼片5-8枚。

選模式種：紅背山麻桿Alchornea trewioides (Benth) Muell. Arg.

我國產6種、1變種。
