研究方向
魚類生態學、魚類系統學、保護生物學、水產動物種質資源保護學研究。目前主要開展長江上游珍稀特有魚類的資源保護，重要水產經濟魚類和珍稀瀕危魚類的種質資源評價，以及涉水工程對水生生態環境及魚類多樣性的影響和保護對策等研究
學術成果
曾對飢餓南方鮎仔、稚魚的形態、生態和組織學特徵有較深入的研究；利用耳石微結構檢測與分析技術對長江四大家魚仔、幼魚的年齡生長，孵化期、產卵期和產卵場，以及早期死亡率和營養狀況等進行了較系統的研究；系統研究了胭脂魚耳石微結構特徵及其生態學機理；系統檢測了岩原鯉、齊口裂腹魚、大渡裸裂尻魚、寶興裸裂尻魚、東方高原鰍不同地理種群的遺傳多樣性及種群遺傳結構。此外，還開展了虹鱒耳石微結構及早期生長特性，以及孔雀魚集群行為等研究。目前主要開展長江上游珍稀特有魚類的資源、區系與系統分類研究，遺傳多樣性檢測及種群遺傳結構分析，重要水產經濟魚類和珍稀瀕危魚類的種質資源評價和保護，以及山區河流水電梯級開發對水生生態環境及魚類多樣性的影響和保護對策等研究。
