哈台，1892年1月18日生於喬治亞州亞特蘭大，1957年8月7日卒於加利福尼亞州北好萊塢。自1913年起在喜劇短片和普通故事片中扮演配角。1926年，哈台來到H．羅希的電影製片廠，與斯坦·勞萊搭檔演出，逐漸發展成美國電影史上頗為成功的、固定的雙人滑稽電影演出班子。自1927年他們合作的第一部影片公映，到1950年最後一部影片為止，共拍攝長短滑稽片100餘部。他們的重要影片有《大買賣》(1929)、《請原諒我們》(1931)、《魔鬼的兄弟》(1933)、《從西方來的路》(1937)、《飛鬼》(1939)等。
