生於洛杉磯，本名Todd Shaw的Too Short在Oakland成長，年僅17歲的他因對音樂的狂熱而DIY了個人第一張專輯〈Don't Stop Rappin'〉，而且當下放在自己的後車箱沿街叫賣起來，始料未及的是，他的作品竟在當地捲起一股小旋風甚至被女孩們索取簽名；隨後Too $hort仍馬不停蹄地創作延續至80末，便和好友Freddy B.合資成就獨立廠牌「Dangerous Music」，發行label下首張唱片《Born To Mack》，光靠他們騎車巡迴的販售方式五萬張就沒了。
好運當頭，他被美國音樂大廠「Jive Records」相中締結盟約，在尚無電台強力播放的情況下《Born To Mack》還是賣到黃金片數，恐怖的是爾後「Jive」替他發的《Life Is...Too $hort》、《Short Dog's In The House》、《Shorty The Pimp》、《Get In Where You Fit In》到95年的《Cocktails》無一不攻占各大雜誌的Hip-Hop / R&B榜或拿下重白金，'96末期隨著第五張白金《Gettin' It (Album Number Ten)》宣告退休，兩年後《Can't Stay Away》的他重返沙場一躍登上榜單前十大再次狂賣，對一個嘻哈樂手來說…沒有人了。
