有一次，Cat Stevens在書店裡看到一本有關於讚美詩的書。這是一本兒童讚美詩，由英國新體詩女詩Eleanor Farjeon（1881～1965）所編撰。他的目光偶然落在其中的一首（也是最受歡迎的一首）：Morning Has Broken上，這使當時正處於靈感枯竭期的他興奮無比，他發現其中的詩句及觀念真的很棒，就當即決定為之鋪上和旋，使之成為自己的歌。
