Mat 就讀於Rose Bruford大學的演講與戲劇學院，並以第一名的成績從該校畢業。他在兒童劇《糟糕歷史/Horrible Histories》中一人分飾多角，並偶爾在該劇中擔任編劇。他因在Gavin & Stacey中飾演Deano一角而被大多人所喜愛，而2011年，Darren Boyd的情景喜劇《菜鳥間諜/Spy》中Chris一角卻著實讓他紅了一把。
