劇情簡介

於洛男爵的妻子阿特麗納·斐希，出身於農家，出落得十分標緻。他們夫婦過了十二年幸福的生活。後來，於洛男爵放蕩起來，把妻子扔在一邊。阿特麗納的堂妹李斯貝蒂·斐希是個醜姑娘，四十多歲尚未出閣，心地善良的阿特麗納把她從農村接到巴黎，讓她學刺繡識字，老姑娘也立志要為自己掙一份家業。

一八三三年，貝蒂拯救了一個開煤氣自殺的青年文賽斯拉·史丹卜克。他是一個從波蘭逃到巴黎的政治犯。貝蒂把自己的積蓄拿出來供養他。有一次，貝蒂把一顆文賽斯拉刻的鑲銀印章給外甥女奧當斯看，並吐露出她的秘密。與此同時，奧當斯在古董店遇見了文賽斯拉。這對年輕人一見鐘情，文賽斯拉便背著貝蒂偷偷出入於洛家。貝蒂見外甥女奧當斯搶走了她的愛人，妒性大發。

她暗中則下定決心，要對於洛一家施行報復……
