本書共收西方翻譯理論著作396部,其中包括少數再版或三、四版的著作,收集在本書里的著作,都是能在國內查找到的,它們的藏書地點有:中國國家圖書館、北京大學圖書館、北京外國語大學圖書館、北京航空航天大學翻譯資料中心、廣東外語外貿大學翻譯學院資料中心等。本書所收著作,每一本均按以下順序編排:1. 基本信息,主要提供該著作的書名、作者、出版社、出版時間和總頁碼;2. 內容簡介:對該書主要內容加以扼要介紹;3. 本書目錄:按原書編排方式,全部收錄其目錄,並標明各章節頁碼。本書共編設了三個附錄:書名索引、作者索引和主題索引。前兩個索引按英語字母順序編排,並在每一條後註明了相應的條目,主要功能是方便讀者查找相關的條目內容。而第三個附錄“主題索引”則是從著作內容角度進行編排的,每一類的索引條目後設定了“參見”,將本書中未收在該部分而又與之有關的書名收錄其中,與該部分收錄的書目形成一個整體,以便於讀者在更大範圍了解同類書籍。
